Weekday programs
S.T.E.M. at Meadow View Learning
S.T.E.M. learning at Meadow View Learning offers hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving. Students are guided to ask meaningful questions, test ideas, and understand how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics shape the world around them.
Our S.T.E.M. offerings emphasize
- careful observation and inquiry
- responsible use of tools and technology
- collaboration and perseverance
- connecting theory to practice
Current S.T.E.M. activities and resources
Scientific Research Participation (Folding@Home)
Older students may participate in Folding@Home, a global citizen-science project that supports real scientific research in protein dynamics and disease study. Through guided participation, students:
- learn how computational science supports medical research
- explore concepts related to biology, chemistry, and data science
- contribute meaningfully to a larger scientific effort
This experience introduces students to authentic research practices and the role of collaboration in scientific discovery. Participation is supervised and age-appropriate.
Science Exploration Area
Our science area is equipped to support hands-on experiments and demonstrations in areas such as:
- basic chemistry
- physics and mechanics
- observation-based science
Students develop lab skills, practice safe procedures, and learn to document and reflect on their findings.
Engineering & Design Lab
Our lab space includes computers and a 3D printer, allowing students to explore engineering, design, and problem-solving through practical projects. Students may:
- design and modify digital models
- learn the basics of prototyping and iteration
- explore how machines and tools interact with the physical world
Projects are guided by instructors and emphasize responsibility, creativity, and thoughtful use of technology.
How we use technology
Our elementary years are screen-free. Learning is led by reading, writing, speaking, and hands-on work. The Engineering & Design Lab and Folding@Home are the deliberate exception, for older students: technology used purposefully, for a project, with an instructor in the room. That is what we mean by responsible use of tools and technology.

Who S.T.E.M. is for
S.T.E.M. programming at Meadow View Learning is designed for students who:
- enjoy hands-on learning and exploration
- are curious about how things work
- are willing to engage thoughtfully and responsibly
- benefit from guided instruction within a structured environment
When it meets
S.T.E.M. Wednesday is one of our three enrichment days. It is included in the 5-Day Core Learning Program and the 3-Day Enrichment Learning Program, and it can also be taken on its own. Many families use California charter instructional funds for it.
- Charter funding may be applied to Wednesday–Friday instructional days only. Math and Language Arts instruction is not included in charter-funded services.
- All charter-funded instruction is secular in nature.
The spring science fair
Each spring our students host a science fair for friends and family to come check out student science projects. Several hands-on experiments are conducted over the course of the semester, and the fair is where the work gets shown off.

Summer brings more of it — see our summer programs for hands-on science, engineering, and design classes.
Next step
Come see the lab for yourself
Fifteen minutes on the phone answers most questions about how S.T.E.M. fits your student's week. If you'd rather see a Wednesday from the inside, book an hour-long campus visit.
